World’s Oldest Grapevine

A noble grapevine, which has been growing and twisting through its trellis for over 450 years, is Maribor’s most unique and most inspirational attraction. The grapevine grows in the oldest part of the city, called Lent, on the side of a building that was once a part of the old city walls. Today, however, the Old Vine House is the central point of excellent local wine producers and lovers of top-notch gastronomy. Don’t miss the authentic flavours served here at wine tastings, the joyful atmosphere of a proper wine event, or the fascination of a unique virtual tour through this oenological Guinness World Record holder.

Maribor Regional Museum

The dominant castle building in the old town houses the Maribor Regional Museum, showcasing the city’s history from the Neolithic period to the beginning of the 20th century. A walk through the castle treats visitors to an exhibit on archaeological excavations in the region, including the founding of the medieval town, and presents them with a wealth of painting, sculpture, historical furniture, and fashion heritage from the region. Don’t miss the magnificent Knight's Hall and leave the castle in style through the Rococo staircase.

Vinag Wine Cellar

Explore the Maribor underworld – the wine tunnels under the city’s old town comprise one of the largest and oldest traditional wine cellars in Europe! The oldest part of the cellar spreading over 15,000 m2 and boasting 2.1 km of underground passages was built in 1847. Don’t miss the precious wine archive, where bottles of the best vintages are stored. After exploring the tunnels, ascend to the tasting room and indulge in an unbeatable wine experience. You can also buy wines there.

Lent Festival

The international Lent Festival is Slovenia’s largest open-air festival and one of the largest in Europe. It is also known as the festival that brings not only summer to the city but also about 200,000 visitors. More than 20 venues, stretching from the banks of the Drava River to the City Park, are only a few minutes' walk away. The eclectic program allows everyone to find something for themselves – don’t miss the opera & ballet, theatre & dance performances, jazz & classical music concerts, world music, folklore evenings, and street theatre performances.

It is an excellent location for biking, hiking, and horseback riding – or simply enjoying the many beauty spots, such as the old-growth forest, fresh lakes, and stunning waterfalls. In winter, Mt. Pohorje turns to the biggest ski centre in Slovenia! Don’t miss the beautiful view of the city from the cable car, a concert in the mountain’s church, and the famous “Pohorje omelette” desert!
